Super Yummy and Healthy Sloppy Joe Recipe

First of all....
I know that this food is on a paper plate.
And I know that it is on a plain old
hamburger bun!

Sometimes life calls for paper plates
and yesterday happen to be one of them!

But, happiness was achieved
when we all enjoyed our favorite ground turkey sloppy joes!

My kids regularly request Sloppy Joes at our home.

I found this recipe in a weight watchers cookbook
many years ago.

I have since lost the cookbook
and this really has become one of those recipes

where you add a palmful of this, a couple shakes of that.
Last night, with the help of my hubby,
We figured out the measurements.

I hope you love it as much as we do!!

Recipe:
1 package ground turkey
(about 1 1/4 lbs)
1/2 green bell pepper
1/2 medium onion
1/2 Tbsp cumin
1/2 Tbsp chili powder
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
2 c. Ketchup

Directions:
Brown the meat in a fry pan until cooked all the way through

while that is cooking, I place the bell pepper and onion
in the blender and blend until it is smooth.
(You can just chop up the pepper and onion
and cook it in with the meat...
but my kids pick it out when I do it like that.
they don't mind when I blend it and add it!

I then add the cumin and chili powder to the
meat and mix well.

Next add the blended pepper and onions
to the cooked meat and stir.

Add the
brown sugar
worcestershire sauce
and ketchup
to the meat mixture.

I just dump them all in and
mix well.

It will be very wet.
Let it simmer for about 10 minutes
or until the desired thickness.

(When I add the ketchup,
I truly just squeeze it from the bottle until I
get the desired consistency...
but I did measure it last night
and this made a good consistency
Sloppy Joes!

This recipe serves 8 people
and is only 180 calories a serving!
You could use any bun/bread/pita
that you like!

if you are super lucky to live in the state of utah
and have access to
Grandma Sycamore's White Bread!
This sloppy joes is heavenly on that bread!!

HONESTLY...
I double this recipe every time
I make it cause my family loves it so much!

It is great as leftovers!

Hope you enjoy!!

i will
i am strong
i can take time for me, that is okay
i am beautiful, inside and out
i CAN find time to eat a healthy balanced diet
i am not less of a person if my house is messy
i can do anything i put my mind to
