Follow Me Friday! Week 13! Learning to Not Compare Myself!

I am truly grateful for this journey
that I am on.

Each week becomes
a time of reflection, growth, and commitment.

I am 13 weeks into this journey!
That is a long time :).

This week I lost 1 lb.
Total of 40.9 lbs.
Overall total of 113.9 lbs.

I have spent the last week thinking about
the importance of sharing
my REAL self.
The good, the bad, the ugly.

As I watch my teenagers
entering the world of social media
I am reminded of how easily
we find fulfillment
or lack thereof
in our time spent on social media.

I recently heard the comment
"I have 236 friends on Instagram
but on 47 liked my picture."
We spent some time discussing
that the number of likes
doesn't determine our worth or value.
Recently I was scrolling
through instagram
and I heard my husband chuckling.
"What are you laughing at?"
"You like every single picture
that you scroll past."
"Well yes, I want them to know
I noticed them and I like them."
So even as an adult,
I understand the need to
feel and make others feel
noticed and appreciated.

But what I fear is when I
or my teenagers
start to compare ourselves to the
online lives of our social media friends.
Let's be honest,
we are all guilty of posting
the best pictures or status updates
that hopefully make it appear
as if we have all things going for us.
We hide from the world of social media
that we sometimes go without makeup
or that our house is often dirty
or that we felt crappy today and just sat on the couch
or that we yelled at our kids over something stupid
or that we often eat crappy food
or that our kids went to school without brushing their hair
or even worse without brushing their teeth
or even worse yet is that we went out without brushing our teeth.

Maybe you have never been guilty of this.
But I am done pretending that I
have an amazingly put together life on social media
and I am done
devouring the perfectly shared lives of others.
We need to find strength in our commonalities...
in the struggles that we all face
as people!
Pulling together and strengthening each other
instead of competing with each other!

Off my soap box!

i will

i am strong
i can take time for me, that is okay
i am beautiful, inside and out
i CAN find time to eat a healthy balanced diet
i am not less of a person if my house is messy
i can do anything i put my mind to
